In March the days start to get a little longer, and our students are off for spring break. Some of us may go out of town, but lots of events take place in our community that you can participate in. From waterway cleanups, to the Relay for Life, and outreach events for seniors, our communities in Northwest Broward are supporting many causes close to our hearts.
I am excited to host a follow up event in North Lauderdale assisting small businesses in Broward County to become certified. Certification is the first step towards working on county and transportation surtax projects. The Office of Economic and Small Business Development will host a presentation and be there to answer any questions you have when growing your business. Broward County is committed to investing in our local communities so that they can grow and continue to be a great place to call home.
On Saturday, March 14th, Broward County will host the 18th Annual Water Matters Day at Tree Tops Park. Water Matters Day serves as an opportunity to connect with your local cities, schools, and community stakeholders as they educate and promote water conservation and sustainability. In addition, the event shows homeowners how native landscaping can lead to water savings. Garden ponds are also an easy addition to most gardens. They can add a lot of aesthetic value and make a gorgeous addition to your garden when properly installed and managed by expert pond installers.
The first week of March has one of my favorite events of the year. Read Across America emphasizes the power of reading at a young age to elementary and preschool children. I will participate at the David Posnack JCC, and we will read books from the PJ Library to the preschoolers. The books read augment the collection that students and teachers use daily by adding new authors that promote the important skill of reading. Hats off to all the organizations that support our children and local school libraries by promoting a life-long love of reading.
I was honored to attend the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference in Washington D.C. While in Washington I met with members of the Florida Congressional Delegation along with House Leadership of both parties about the issues that are important to our community. From safe schools to increasing the funding for infrastructure projects in Broward County, I secured their commitment to focus on these very important issues to safety and growth of our community. I am proud to represent our community and fight for our priorities at the federal level.
