Family Focused Football!

When it comes to tackle football, the Parkland Rangers are a league that has it all together. Part of the worldwide Pop Warner organization, a storied and historical program whose roots began in 1929, the Rangers are proud of the rules that make a difference for every player on the field.

“We have a minimum play rule,” says Rangers President, Brian Hall. “That means that every child on a team gets to play in every game during the season.” He goes on to tell us that often in tackle programs, the culture is all about winning and not as much about individual development and encouragement. “These players are out here practicing four days a week, with a game on Saturdays. Each one of them deserves and has earned time in the game.”

With 175 athletes, including cheerleaders, from ages 5 to 15, the league is divided into six age divisions. The season begins with its first practice on August 1st and, depending on the national playoffs, can go through November or December. Regular league play consists of eight games and, success in the playoffs can find teams at the National Championships, held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports and televised on ESPN. For a hometown league, that’s an exciting prospect! Not some pie in the sky dream, the Rangers have come very close to the championship game in Orlando in recent years. Winning is terrific, but it isn’t the main focus of the league’s leadership.

“Out of all the sports my son Mathew plays, this is the only one that has a true family atmosphere,” says Brian. “We all know each other. It’s a great program to be in!”

The first time he’s taken on any league responsibility, Brian came into the Rangers as a coach and now enjoys his time on field and as part of the 11-person Board of Directors. He vows to keep the philosophy of the league alive. “If we get every kid to come back every year, we’ve done our job, and when our entire program is full, that’s a winning record.”
