Florida Family Safety Fest 2018

Florida Family Safety Fest 2018

During times of disaster, we all can recognize the first responders’ colors on the scene. It’s either the Fire Department in red or the Police Department’s in blue. It is only after them that the burn accident lawyer would come to scene. But a new color is now on the scene and it is the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) who are in green which is the international color for volunteers.  These CERT teams are made up of people like you or me who have an active sense of duty to helping their family, friends and neighbors before, during and after a disaster.

CERT teams provide free training in disaster response such as confined space entry training to ordinary citizens throughout the country. Team members work closely with a sponsoring agency, usually a fire or police department, to advance their training and to learn new skills. When called upon, teams provide large-scale emergency and disaster response, first aid and safety at public service events, assistance with missing person searches, firefighter rehab, along with many other support functions as requested by the local agencies.

As a way to financially support their efforts, CERT teams from several Broward cities come together to host the Florida Family Safety Fest.  This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10AM-3PM with a Pancake Breakfast from 8AM-10 AM.  It will be held at the Sportsplex in Coral Springs located at 2575 Sportsplex Drive, 33065. The Florida Family Safety Fest event will have something for the entire family. There will be food vendors, children’s activities, bounce houses, SWAT and k9 security Sydney demonstrations by the police departments, extrication demonstrations by local fire departments, equipment displays from police, fire and other agencies and much, much more.
