You can hear the roars and see the lights again at North Springs, Mullins, Cypress and all surrounding parks…. It’s summer baseball season once again in South Florida. The Season opened at the various parks around the 1st of March. It’s great to see the kids involved in an outdoor sport and getting fresh air and exercise, but it’s more about the life lessons they are learning.

You can just feel the enthusiasm and anticipation the kids have prior to each game. Twelve-year-old Jake Needles, on the 50/70 Nationals team feels his team works great together and is well organized. He said, “We know how to play the game and know what to do in certain situations.” Jake said his team has all played together before and have become really good friends because of that. His favorite positions are left field and 2nd base and feels the team will do very well this season. Jake thinks he will continue sports in High School but said his focus will be on his studies.

Dearis Dore, age 10 on the 9 & 10 year-old Nationals team, coached by Donny Farrel, anticipates the team will do well but only with really, really hard work. “I try to make it to every practice I can,“ said Dearis. “It’s preparing me for High School baseball. Dearis’ favorite position is right field.

Working together as a team is what’s important to Ethan Buckley, 11 years old, on the CSNLL Mets team. He anticipates that the team will do well because they practice hard. He feels his strengths are in hitting and running. He wants to play High School baseball and will be attending Coral Glades.

Also on the CSNLL Mets is Alex Lackovic, age 11. “Our coaches teach us how to lead off the bases – how many foot steps to take and how to steal,” Alex said. He feels his strengths are in hitting and his favorite position is short stop or first base. He said that Little League is helping him prepare for High School baseball because of the skills he is learning.
