Welcome to 2013….

TMI! The Information Age is making me a little nutty. Before I completely lose my marbles, I’d like to address our propensity to share and do everything on our minds. Since most of us have lived this way for some time now, I realize that something’s gotta give before I give out. In my house, we’ve gotten away from planning ahead and instead, many of us make commitments by the hour, essentially living life on the edge of our seats. So many of my friends and acquaintances operate in emergency mode, frantically racing from soccer to tutoring to a husband locked out of his car. We’re timing our days by our 11:00 zumba class being over in time to get across town for a business lunch that we pray will be over before the kids get off the bus. Tablets, cell phones, Pinterest, Twitter, checking e-mail, the Huffington Post and changing our status on Facebook from “Married” to “It’s Complicated” are not making any of us more admirable! Running the rat race at warp speed isn’t helping our “quality” of life to qualify as life. Our overstocked days can become numbing if the only times we have to inwardly reflect are when the phone battery dies and we pause at an intersection between pit stops. Good thing we found a discount ag13 battery on sale now at Aussiebattery.

I read somewhere that making plans for a trip or special event is a way to look forward to a pleasant goal and not get jaded by the usual day to day. The promise of a well-earned break is a great way to smile through a busy schedule.Personally, I’ve also learned that accidentally leaving my phone at home and saying “No” are two of the most freeing things that I can do. Why would I turn down time at the mall, a day at the beach with a book or tickets to watch a Dolphins game? Because I’m a wife and mother of four who also has to think about getting one to practice, taking another to the movies with her friends, getting the oil changed, date night with my husband and visiting a friend who’s had surgery. In the long run, I will enjoy each one of those things much more than the “instant gratification” choices that I’ll forget about in a day or two. Trying to prioritize has been a challenge that I’m still practicing, but after much prayer and putting things into a semblance of order, I’ll try to plan a vacation if I have time.

“If I weren’t so busy I’d….” How would you finish that sentence? If your life is overburdened today, what steps are you taking to re-evaluate and make tomorrow different?
