The City of Parkland Annually holds a three-part youth fishing tournament at the fishing pier at Pine Trails Park in the heart of the city. With fishing dates in June, July, and the last installment in August, young contestants compete for prizes for largest fish, smallest fish, most fish caught, and more.
“As a kid, growing up in Florida, I was outside fishing all the time. We never had a fishing derby like we have in Parkland where kids and their folks can have a great time together, enjoy the outdoors in a safe, friendly environment while catching monster fish! What a great event!”
- Ken Cutler
This annual summer event is enjoyed by the youth who participate with their parents alongside. The next tournament date is Saturday, July 10th. Followed by Saturday, August 14th. The derby runs from 8:00am through 10:00am with the awards presented immediately after.
This is a free event, open to the public for participants ages 3-12 years old held at the Pine Trails Park fishing pier. Check-in will start at 7:45 A.M. and the sounding of a horn will start (8:00 A.M.) and finish (10:00 A.M.) the derby.
- Fishing can be on the pier or the surrounding shoreline of the lake. Please do not wade in the water and be aware there have been alligator sightings.
- Participants are responsible for bringing all necessary fishing supplies (fishing pole, line, bait, hooks)
- Due to the close quarters of the many participants, we ask that you use caution when casting your line and refrain from using artificial bait and lures with many hooks.
- Have fun!
