Jokingly starting our conversation with, “We should just put a tent out on the fields with mattresses,“ Markell alludes to the fact that she and her husband Mike spend most of their free time on the field with their active sons, Mason, 7, and Maddox, 5. Their family is completed by their adorable French bulldog, Diesel.
Both busy professionals, Mike is the Field Operations Manager for a Custom Home Builder, and Markell is the Director of Operations for an Impact Window and Door Company.
Mike tells us, ”In 2015 we were searching for wedding venues and came to Parkland. At that time, we both agreed that someday we would love to settle down and raise a family here. Later that year we purchased our first home.” Markell smiles and adds, “We love the small town feel!“
Involved in sports all over the city, Mason plays Travel Baseball with the Pokers, while his brother is involved in Tee ball, where Dad is a coach. Both boys also play flag football and soccer, where Markell is a Division Director on the Parkland Soccer Board. She also really enjoys coaching them.
So when they are not at home, work, or living on the fields, the Hazelwoods can’t seem to sit still. Camping, Sporting Events, Swimming and going out on the boat are just a few of their favorite extracurricular things to do.
Both brothers are at Riverglades Elementary. Mason is in 2nd grade where P.E. and Math are his favorite subjects.
Maddox is in Kindergarten, and says that Centers are the most fun.
“Never let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game,” Mike shares. “We are full circle, a sports family. We live, eat and breath at the fields- and wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Markell agrees and adds, “Our children have made friendships and bonds that we hope will last a lifetime. As full time Uber drivers for our kids, we too have had the pleasure of making friends who are now like family. We hope that no matter what obstacles or adventures our family faces, we always learn from it. Knowledge is Power.”
It seems that the Hazelwoods feel lucky to have found Parkland, but let’s just say that Parkland is lucky to have them!
