Meet The Obrand Family

Mike and his wife, Carly Dorfman, are proud parents of two active children, Ava, 7, and Rory, 5. Ava is an avid dancer, taking tap, acro, and ballet. She also loves cheerleading and music theater. Rory loves sports and is involved in Parkland Tee-Ball, Soccer, and skates at the Panthers Ice Den.-

Parkland residents for eight years now, both Mike and Carly agree that they love the small town feel and community they have become part of in Parkland. “We enjoy running into friends everywhere we go,” Mike says. Carly adds, “We love contributing to the community professionally and personally, and know this will be our home for years to come.”

Mike is a Senior Account Executive at Lightspeed Commerce, and Carly is a Speech Language Pathologist and the owner of KIDnection, a play space for kids, hosting caregiver and me classes, birthday parties, and special events based in Parkland.

When asked about her kids and their activities, Carly laughs and says, “Both children love to be creative and get messy. They take weekly art enrichment classes at KIDnection.”

An involved dad on the field and at the rink, Mike coaches Soccer and Tee-Ball. He is an avid hockey fan and plays hockey weekly at the Panthers Ice Den in Coral Springs.

Carly is very active with pilates, and is also involved in the PTO at Heron Heights and Congregation Kol Tikvah. Passionate about her business, KIDnection regularly has booths at a variety of community events throughout Parkland. Both Mike and Carly volunteer at Heron Heights Elementary, helping out in the classroom.

When asked about their lives outside of work and school, Carly tells us, “We love spending time together as a family as much as we can. Whether it’s trips to the beach, exploring local restaurants, or browsing the Parkland Farmer’s Market, we love going on adventures together, big or small.”

Ava attends Heron Heights elementary and is in the Multiyear program. She is starting second grade and loves reading and art.

Rory recently graduated Pre-K from Phylis J Green ECC at Congregation Kol Tikvah. He will be starting Kindergarten at Heron Heights in the Multiyear program. He loves to create in his STEM workshops.

As we finalize our interview, both Mom and Dad add their sentiments about their beautiful hometown. “I feel so grateful to live in a city that supports me personally and professionally. We have found our forever home and our forever friends here. It truly is the best place to live in South Florida,” Carly says with passion.

Mike continues with his unique perspective, “I moved to South Florida from Montreal, Canada ten years ago. The Montreal community is tight-knight and family-oriented, and our family has found the same feeling in Parkland. I could not ask for a better place to establish new roots, raise a family and grow with the community.”

The Obrands attend services at Congregation Kol Tikvah.
