The Cozzolino Family

Our October Family in Focus…The Cozzolinos

Sabrina and her husband Marco-Andrea are the proud parents of three beautiful children, Noor, 19, Sofia, 16, and Gabriel, 8. The family unit is completed by felines, Matisse and Bizet.

They moved to Parkland from Italy nine years ago. Sabrina tells us, “We love the sense of community here, the events the city organizes, the Mayor being approachable, and the City’s safety and diversity.” Regardless of the fact that they are Parkland residents, Sabrina goes on to say, “We consider ourselves world citizens. No matter where we live WE are home.”

Noor pursues film and screen studies in New York City at Pace University. Mom says, “She is an amazing writer and has great imagination. She is also a math genius!”

Sofia is a senior at Douglas high school who loves to learn about history and is considered the artist in the family. In her free time, she practices and performs intensive classical ballet.

Gabriel, in the third grade at Park Trails elementary, prefers math and recess. He also plays hockey, tennis, and is disciplined in taekwondo.

Sabrina is a local Realtor and Marco is co-owner of a popular Parkland restaurant.

A breast cancer survivor, Sabrina is passionate and compassionate regarding fundraising for research and cures for both pediatric and adult cancers. She has Chaired Relay for Life/Parkland for two years and co-hosted Parkland’s First Cycle for Survival in honor of Adam Fiorello. Her story is a cautionary tale, but truly one of hope. One day she found a lump in her breast “like a marble” while taking a shower. Always an optimist and having no cancer history in her family, Marco prompted her to make a medical appointment. Although Sabrina never expected anything serious, tests proved that she had stage 3 cancer, which was treated through double mastectomy and chemo therapy. She is grateful for every day of her life, and speaking with Sabrina is encouraging and enlightening. When speaking of family and their combined outlook, Sabrina tells us, “We have lived through many challenging times and have always come out stronger. We never ever give up and are always ready for plan C!”

Sabrina’s love of life and her family is evident throughout our conversation. “We all love to travel! Once we arrive at our destination, we always look for an art exhibit, a concert, a ballet and try to find a specialty restaurant featuring the local cuisine.” The Cozzolinos also love cooking together, playing piano together (with four or six hands), and singing. “We have lots of fun at our karaoke family night,” smiles Sabrina.

Our interview concludes with a glimpse at their faith. “We are a multifaith family and believe in one God only.” Sabrina continues, “We embrace traditions. We pray, praise and thank God Almighty many times a day.”
