The Evans Family

Coral Springs residents for 12 years, Percy and Tonya are happy to raise kids Luke, 12, and Kendall, 9, in an area that Tonya says is, “Truly a perfect place for young families. We chose this area because it is so kid-centered.”

Luke and Kendall attend North Broward Preparatory School (NBPS), where Mom is a Director. Tonya says, “I am blessed to work with an amazing group of people and in such an innovative learning environment.” Kendall will be entering the 5th grade and her favorite subject is math. Luke will start the 7th grade and he also counts math as his favorite. Dad’s career is as a Business Development Manager with a successful software company.

Luke plays several sports including baseball, flag football and basketball. He also plays travel baseball with the Florida Pokers and for his school baseball team at NBPS. Luke also plays the violin and has participated for two years in the All County Orchestra.

Kendall plays soccer, volleyball and dances. She has played for two years with the Coral Springs Soccer League and recently joined a travel team through Coral Springs United. She also plays the violin, takes dance classes and participates in theater productions at NBPS and is a member of the Lower School Choir.

During this season of their lives, Tonya and Percy are very focused on their children. Tonya says, “Like most parents, a great deal of our time is spent taking the kids to their various activities. We know that this time with them is fleeting and Percy and I really enjoy watching the kids try different sports and other activities.”

Both parents feel fulfilled when volunteering in the community. Tonya focuses her extra time to benefit and fundraise for organizations that support young people. She says, “I try to do at least one volunteer project per month and am really focused on looking for ways that I can incorporate the kids.” Percy enjoys working with kids and has volunteered as a coach for baseball and flag football since Luke began to play sports. He will be coaching Luke’s NBPS Football team this fall. Tonya also enjoys writing and has a personal blog and podcast about style, travel and working women.

Family time often revolves around each child’s activities. Tonya tells us, “So much of our time is spent on a field of some sort. We make sure that the kids support each other in their individual sports so we all go to the games together when possible. Some of our best conversations are in the car ride to and from those fields!” Not that their lives are solely relegated to sweating on a field somewhere, Mom continues, “We love to travel with the kids and try to take one cruise with them each year so that we have
dedicated time together.”

To stay connected, the Evans’ have dinner together almost every night, sometimes going to the beach for a picnic pizza. Friday night is family movie night. Percy says, “It’s usually the only night we have at home with no activities.”

Members of Church by the Glades since 2005, Tonya and Percy’s closely held values are what keep their family strong. As Dad nods in agreement, Tonya shares, “What’s really most important to us is our faith, our family and our friends. Life gets so busy but we try our best to make sure that those things stay in the proper order and we know that God will manage the rest. We are so thankful to have a village of people in this community that helps support those values.”
