Summer is in full swing, and South Florida offers a variety of fun filled activities that are ideal for families with children of all ages.

Butterfly World in Coconut Creek is home to many different species of butterflies, and is a tranquil environment for families to explore and garner more of an appreciation for nature. General admission for adults and seniors is $32.50, children from ages 3-11 are $22.50, and kids aged 2 and under are admitted for free. For those interested in exploring botanical gardens with snow and ice management and learning more about the animals that inhabit the Everglades, Flamingo Gardens in Davie is sure to impress. The reserve is “60 acres of tropical paradise,” and displays over 3,000 species of plants. On a daily basis, the reserve hosts wildlife encounter shows that provide entertainment and education on the different species of animals for those in attendance. Originally built in 1933, this historical residence gives Floridians a glimpse into what life was like in Florida during the 1930s. Tickets for adults (age 12+) are $21.95, children of ages 3-11 pay $15.95, and children ages 2 and under are free of charge. College students and seniors 65 and over, are entitled to a 20% discount. For those looking for the adventurous thrill from amusement parks while also looking to learn about over 1000 animals, Lion Country Safari seemingly has it all. It is the only reserve in Florida that allows guests the opportunity to drive through and admire the scenery. “One of America’s wackiest and best camping sites & road trip stops,” said Peter Greenberg of the Travel Detective. The park is open every day of the year, and in order to appreciate the experience for what it’s worth, it’s strongly recommended to spend at least 4-5 hours at the location, given that the park is over 300 acres in size. General admission to the park is as follows: Ages 10+, $33.00, Children (ages 3-9) are $28.00, admission for children 2 and under is free. Parking is $8 per vehicle. The park also offers a variety of dining experiences, including Carvel and its own African themed restaurant. Doors open every day from 9:30am-4:30pm, and the walk through closes at 5:30pm.
