Parkland resident Britney Brace is a rising international tennis star, already making waves at just 14 years old. Thoughtful, polite, and incredibly well-spoken, she takes time to reflect on her life, sharing that her two German Shepherds, Hulk and Steeler, are her closest companions. “They are honestly my best friends,” she says, highlighting their strong bond.
Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the Brace family’s decision to train in Florida has proven to be the right choice, thanks to the region’s temperate climate and abundance of both hard and clay courts. Britney dedicates four hours a day to perfecting her game, all while being coached by her father, John. Her sights are set on securing an official WTA ranking within the next six months, a goal that’s within reach for this driven young athlete.
John, who was a hockey player before turning to coaching his daughters, is honest and candid about the challenges of being both a coach and a father. “Coaching Britney is very rewarding because of her constant effort and desire to be great. However, it has its challenges. Sometimes she needs a hug, and sometimes she needs a kick in the butt; we figure it out!” he says with a smile. Their father-daughter dynamic is built on mutual respect and a shared love for the sport.
Last July, Britney made history by winning her first pro ITF tennis match in Don Benito, Spain. One of her favorite places she’s visited so far is Segovia, Spain, and she also spent some time exploring Portugal last summer. As a five-star recruit, Britney’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed, even though NCAA rules prevent colleges from approaching her directly due to her age. Rest assured, however, many top-tier colleges are keeping a close eye on this up-and-coming star. Britney’s older sister, Cadence, also made a splash in the tennis world and currently attends LSU, continuing in her family’s sporting footsteps.
At home, Britney is home-schooled, studying with the help of her parents, Teresa and John. She’s currently in Grade 8 and balances her academic commitments with her rigorous tennis training schedule. Her favorite shot on the court is her serve. “Having a good serve is the most important part and, in my opinion, that’s the best shot. Also, a good mental attitude will always be important,” she shares with confidence.
Outside of tennis, Britney enjoys reading, especially about politics, which she finds fascinating. “I like learning about the world around me so that when I’m older, I’ll be prepared,” she says thoughtfully. When she’s not reading or practicing, Britney loves baking cinnamon rolls, cookies, and cakes. But when it comes to comfort food, she’s the first to admit: “Tacos are my favorite pig-out food!”
Shopping is another favorite pastime, especially when it’s with her sister, Cadence. “I love styling her! She’s so beautiful!” Britney says, expressing her admiration. They share a special bond, with Britney’s curly hair contrasting her sister’s straight, dark locks. Britney also cherishes her close friendship with her other best friend, Lauren, someone she trusts deeply.
Cars are another passion, and she dreams of owning a black Lamborghini one day. “I also love this really cool 1978 pink Cadillac,” she adds with a smile.
Not to be forgotten, Britney’s brother, John, Jr., is also making his mark, attending FAU and formerly being part of an MSD hockey team that won a state championship.
Britney’s journey is just beginning, and with her determination, talent, and close-knit family support, there’s no doubt she’ll continue to achieve great things both on and off the court.
