I was attending a charity event; the recipients of this charity were developmentally challenged. I was kind of upset that I had made the commitment to attend as it was after 5pm. I made the commitment, and I decided to follow through with my promise, so I put my blazer on and got in the car. When I arrived I met quite a few new friends. The majority of my new friends were developmentally challenged (CP, aspergers, spina bifida, down syndrome, quadriplegics).
So the lesson is very simple and it was the most powerful one of the year for me. …My new friends’ challenges result in unbridled honesty and wisdom. I left this event perplexed, contemplative and possibly wiser.
Some folks may say, life is tough…some folks may say I have been dealt a bad hand of cards. The reality is, if you have the ability to wake up and get yourself out of bed; if when you open your mouth and speak words come out, if you do not have any of the challenges my new friends have, you are immensely blessed.
So the point to this quick read, is that your perspective dictates your joy in life.
