Parkland mom Margi Pattin has three adult children, and is now excited to be adopting her foster daughter, Ashaia B., 6. During the summertime, her daughter Nevaeh, 22, also lives at home when she’s having school breaks. Ashaia thrives in gymnastics and has a deep love for art, finding joy and creativity in both pursuits. Nevaeh is now in her senior year at FSU, excelling with a dual major in Biological Science and Sports Science.
Margi is the founder and president of two nonprofit organizations. One dedicated to supporting families in need and the other committed to empowering and advocating for homeless youth.
She tells us, “For 17 years, I dedicated myself to competitive swimming, including four years with the Florida Masters Swim Team. I also worked as a swimming instructor at Boca Country Club, sharing my love for the sport with others.” She continues, “Until two years ago, I actively participated in local triathlons and Spartan events as a member of the Special Compass team, where I had the privilege of carrying individuals with special needs through every leg of the race; a deeply humbling and transformative experience.”
Her greatest passion lies in the charity work she does within the community. She recently spearheaded an effort in Parkland to collect garbage cans and essential items for victims of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, successfully filling two semi-trucks with donations to aid those in need.
When it comes to family time, Margi shares, “We have a deep love for the outdoors. As the parent of an autistic child, I’ve found that immersing ourselves in nature and nurturing her passion for wildlife has been a beautiful way to connect and grow.”
She also makes it a point to explore new trails and parks, as well as enjoying the activities and events hosted by the city of Parkland and its neighboring communities. She says, “These provide wonderful opportunities for connection and adventure.”
Ashaia is a first-grade student at Riverglades Elementary, where she has a passion for all things art-related. Nevaeh is currently studying at Florida State University, with Chemistry being her favorite class.
In 2025, Margi looks forward to new opportunities for growth, both personally and professionally. “I’m excited to continue making a meaningful impact through my work, particularly in supporting the community and advocating for those in need. I also look forward to deepening my connections with loved ones, creating lasting memories, and embracing the challenges and joys that the year will bring. Most importantly, I’m eager to see how the projects I’m passionate about evolve and to witness the positive changes they inspire.”
Ashaia, though autistic and communicating less than others her age, has a remarkable way of reminding everyone she meets, “You are the best.” Nevaeh, when asked for advice, is quick to respond, “Whenever in doubt, ask a teenager—they know everything.”
Margi and her family attend services at Church by the Glades.
