Spring is such a beautiful time of year. The flowers are in bloom, the fruit trees are beginning to bud and the butterflies are fluttering happily across the schoolyard. It is a time of new beginnings and new life. Here at Glades Christian Academy, we just finished celebrating families with our first Family Prom. The evening was truly “Enchanted.” One dad even stated it was the “best date he and his wife had taken in years.” The students celebrated life and healthy bodies during the annual “Gator Games.” They ran the mile and half mile, participated in the broomball tournaments and enjoyed bounce houses and obstacle courses. Spring is also when we stop to reflect on Easter and the meaning of a new life in Christ.
Easter is special in the hearts of Christians across the globe. I will never forget the first Easter I began to understand the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross to pay for my sin debt. I was about 7 years old and standing in the church’s Fellowship Hall when I noticed Mrs. E. passing out chocolate crosses. She asked me, “Would you like a candy cross? All you have to do is answer a few questions.”
I really wanted one of those crosses; unfortunately, I did not know the answers to her questions. “What is Easter all about?” I did not know. She leaned over and whispered in my ear, “The day we celebrate that Jesus arose from the dead.” Then I would parrot the answer back to her. She continued asking me questions and whispering answers in my ear. This was the first time I really put together that Jesus was the Son of God, who had come to die on a rugged cross to pay for not just my sins, but also the sins of the world! Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
The students at Glades Christian Academy, from Pre-School through 8th grade, have the experience of learning about “Jesus and His Word” every day.
