On January 11, while the New Year was still fresh with promise, Coral Springs lost a talented and favorite son, Steven Hoyos, 17. Steven was an accomplished, Coral Springs High School musician who lost his life in a car crash. His local teen band, Treaty with Time, has just released the single ‘My Final Wave’ in his memory.
Only one week after forming the band and writing this song, Steven’s passing devastated family, friends and the entire community. In Honor of Steven, Treaty with Time came together and finished and recorded his/their final work with Steven. ‘My Final Wave’ is the culmination of the band’s brief time together and it is dedicated to Steven, their much loved band mate. Musician Rylan Talerico said, “Steven had a gift. He could take melodies and turn them into these symphonies of coolness.”
The point Treaty With Time wants to drive home is that this was Steven’s big break, and one that he would never live to see. Bandmate Matthew Schneider reflects, “He had a gift that no one else could comprehend. He was just good at music…..and this song is to show everyone that.”

All proceeds from the song’s sale will go directly to the Steven Hoyos Memorial Fund, which is set up at Coral Springs High School. The fund’s purpose is to help students with financial needs pay the fees required to participate in the band program. Each scholarship includes the entire fee. The guys in the band feel strongly that donating to this fund will keep Steven’s name alive while giving students the ability to create music.
