In the vibrant arts scene of Parkland and Coral Springs, one name stands out as a beacon of creativity and compassion: Joseph Gormley. This local school custodian, father of two, and extraordinary artist has not only captivated the hearts of art enthusiasts with his talent but has also become a powerful force for change in the community. Known for his celebrity portraits and, as of recently, “love hearts” paintings, which he donates to charity, Joseph has taken on a new artistic venture–live painting at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts.
Nestled upstairs at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts is the VIP room known as Level3—a place where theater-goers can mingle and enjoy drinks before shows. This room is adorned with Joseph’s stunning portraits, showcasing his immense talent and artistic range. However, it is not just the presence of his artwork that makes Level 3 special; it is also where Joseph sets up his live painting station during shows. There, his creativity soars as he paints the performers on stage.
What sets Joseph’s live painting apart is his invitation to attendees to join him in the creative process. When approached, Joseph steps aside, allowing them to express themselves and contribute to his ongoing masterpiece. “I step back from the canvas and let you be the rockstar,” he adds.
For Joseph, live painting is a thrilling and rewarding experience. “It’s a wonderful way of meeting people,” he shares with enthusiasm. Beyond the joy of connecting with others, he utilizes this opportunity to network within the community, seeking out new charities that could benefit from his artistic contributions. As Joseph puts it, “You just never know who you’re talking to.”
The success and growth of Joseph’s live painting endeavor would not have been possible without the support of the Coral Springs Center for the Arts’ General Manager, William Haggett. William’s belief and encouragement in Joseph’s vision has played an instrumental role in shaping this exciting chapter of his artistic journey.
True to his philanthropic nature, Joseph ensures that the proceeds from his paintings continue to support a variety of charitable causes. Among his favorite beneficiaries are Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital, aiding children battling cancer, and My Family Matters Foundation, which provides financial assistance to families facing the burden of their children’s medical bills due to cancer.
In addition to his remarkable artistic contributions, Joseph seeks to inspire young artists in the community to embrace their creative potential with confidence. Through his humble nature and genuine love for his craft, he aims to encourage budding talents to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact through their art.
