Can Acupuncture treat Colds and Flu

Cold and flu season is upon us. Since the 17th century, Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine have helped to prevent these common illnesses, speeding recovery by simply strengthening the body’s immune system. Each year more than 100,000 people are hospitalized due to complications from influenza. The associated signs and symptoms are fever, sore throat, fatigue, runny nose, dry cough, congestion, muscle and body ache, sneezing and watery eyes. Colds are much less severe than the flu but also cause many similar symptoms. Clinical studies have shown that using Acupuncture as a preventative approach to colds and flu can reduce the incidence of upper respiratory tract infection and shorten the duration of the illness. Acupuncture strengthens underlying weakness and boosts the immune system. Studies have shown that certain blood counts and immune enhancing chemicals stay elevated for at least 3 days following an acupuncture treatment.

Acupuncture treatments last from 30 minutes to an hour and most patients are surprised that they involve no pain and are quite relaxing. On average, adults need to be seen 4 times a year at the change of seasons to increase immunity to the changing environment. It is imperative to receive treatments before feeling the symptoms of the flu or cold. If symptoms do appear, the earlier the intervention the more effective treatments will be.

Without using medication or over-the-counter drugs, Acupuncture is a safe, natural and effective way to support your body’s self regulating healing systems.
