In the Kitchen with…Los Tacos by Chef Omar

With an affective passion for food, Chef Omar Covarrubias has enjoyed enormous success by sharing his talent and the authentic flavors of Mexico. Because of his personal history of perfecting recipes to share with the world at large, Chef Omar has opened a handful of restaurants throughout south Florida. Los Tacos has their largest store right here in Coral Springs, and Chef Omar is proud of every recipe as well as some delicious Margaritas that are not common on other menus. So if you’re as passionate as him in the kitchen, then sites such as this recipe blog may be a gift for you.

A strong proponent for true Mexican cuisine, Chef Omar and his recipes are directly from over the border, with many ingredients flown in from Mexico. All of the sauces are made from scratch, and recipes are followed carefully.

Born in Mexico City, Chef Omar was raised spending time in his family’s hotel kitchen in Cuautla, Morelos. He remembers watching the kitchen staff cleaning the beans, peeling potatoes and preparing each dish with care. In addition, to have an optimized kitchen, one should also consider having a grease trap mechanism with the help of a grease recycling service. This will avoid clogging and grease will be recycled, making it a win-win situation for the restaurant owner and the environment. If you’re planning a kitchen renovation, make sure to hire the best contractor who specializes in cabinet makers that will create a more spacious one to ensure all supplies will fit in. Moreover, restaurant owners must have a go-to company for Emergency Cold Room Service.

Graduating from a culinary school in Florida, his desire has always been to promote the beauty and individuality of Mexican style food throughout the world. “I love to travel everywhere and learn how other chefs do things that set them apart. I also love sharing what I know and promoting my beautiful country and its recipes.” He says that, all too often, what Americans know as “Mexican” food is simply a watered down version of eating he calls “Tex-Mex.” “I mean no disrespect to this style,” Chef Omar insists. “But this is not authentic Mexican food.” He agrees when I suggest that the comparison may be like the Chinese food that Americans have come to expect.

Decorated with many awards in his career, Chef Omar, an engaging and humble family man, has received the National Award for Latino Chef of the Year and has had the honor of cooking for the Mexican President as well as many world leaders and dignitaries. A local resident, the Chef grows his own peppers in his home garden, experimenting thoroughly with every recipe before its addition to the menu.

The dishes at Los Tacos may look and sound familiar, but each embodies the “real” flavors of Mexico. Enchiladas, quesadillas, fresh guacamole, flautas and a huge assortment of tacos are here to please every palate. One of the dishes Chef Omar encourages everyone to try is his award winning wet burrito. Adults are invited to accompany their meal with a refreshing favorite from the bar including Mexican Cerveza, freshly made Sangria, Wine, flavored Margaritas with natural fruits and a fine selection of Tequila.

To finish a perfect meal, always leave room for dessert! Traditional favorites are available as well as some sumptuously sweet choices that will leave your cravings satisfied.

Let Los Tacos cater your next fiesta. Take out is also available.
