March Family In Focus – The Holz

In a true illustration of  “love can sneak up on you,” this family is proof positive that the statement is true. Rachel was a student at Coral Springs Christian Academy (CSCA) since her preschool days. Andy began attending in 7th grade. She says, “In high school, we both had mutual friends and were often going to the same leadership or volunteer events. We never really saw each other as anything more than classmates.”  Fast forward to Andy’s senior year and the Jr/Sr Prom. Rachel recounts,  “Andy asked me to go with him, but to spare a friend’s feelings, I declined.  Once at the prom, he asked me to dance with him and everything else seemed to fade away.” And the couple’s fairy tale turned into marriage and  two energetic, identical twin boys, Christopher and Kenny, 2.

Where their life together began, Andy & Rachel have both found careers and a continued sense of belonging. Rachel is the Yearbook Advisor and Technology Teacher as well as the Head Volleyball Coach at CSCA. She says, “It’s an honor and privilege to lead the volleyball program. Playing here was a blessing. Coaching my own sister and sister-in laws in their varsity careers, and continuing the tradition of excellence into the future here is a rare opportunity that I cherish.

Andy is also there working as a Math and English Teacher, Head Football Coach and he’s also a practicing member of the Florida Bar. He  ran for Coral Springs City Commissioner in our most recent election. Andy says, “Having the opportunity to coach on a field dedicated to my father is an incredible opportunity. To see our sons running, throwing and tackling, mostly each other, on that field is all the more a blessing. My family’s dedication to this school spans nearly two decades, and to have the opportunity to lead the football program back to relevance in South Florida is not something I will take for granted. The friends that have become family in our time in Coral Springs mean everything to us.”

Both have been raised in the City of Coral Springs and they are excited to bring their boys up in the same environment. “Both of our families still live in Coral Springs.,” Rachel tells us. “We are very close with them and love that our boys are raised with their grandparents, aunts, and uncles only five minutes away.  We wouldn’t trade that for anything!”

The boys attend 2 year old classes at First United Methodist Preschool. Mom says, “They love anything with animals (especially dogs), sports, or Mickey Mouse. Our boys also love to wrestle with each other.” With a sweet smile, she adds, “Their pre-school teachers call them little bear cubs.”

Holz family activities are usually centered around what’s going on at CSCA. In the fall, the boys attend Rachel’s volleyball games and Andy’s football games. After the seasons are over, they all cheer on the basketball and soccer teams.  Rachel says, “Usually all the boys want to do are shoot hoops with the team and can’t wait for halftime to entertain everyone in the stands. When we aren’t at a CSCA or church event, we just enjoy the small amount of time we have together at home. Twin boys are a constant source of entertainment for us!”

The Holzes are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Springs.
