Meet the Eagles

By Doug Waldinger, Stoneman Douglas Gridiron Club President

Stoneman Douglas Football is entering into a new era. Head Coach Willis May, Jr. introduced the 2013 Eagles Football Team accompanied by our Cheerleaders and the Band Drum Line to a crowd of cheering fans at an exciting  “Meet the Team” event. After months of hard work, conditioning, summer camp and practice under the grueling Florida sun, the season is finally here! The revamped program built around instilling a hard work ethic, pride and passion is expected to translate into a winning season. The newly decorated stadium with an Eagle “Run-Through-Tunnel” and other amenities added to the excitement.

Senior Ryan Allison reflected on the special night. “Coming out onto the field and experiencing the start of a new tradition was really exciting. I see a big difference in the team’s attitude and dedication. We’ve been working hard since January, getting stronger mentally and physically. We are no longer individual players, and have come together as a family supporting each other. I believe it will pay off with a winning season.”

Bradley Mullings, also a senior, looks forward to his last high school season. “Being a part of the Meet-the-Team event was exciting and the new additions to the stadium, like the Bleacher seating installation, look great. We see that people in the community care about our team and want us to succeed. I’m proud to be a Douglas Eagle on a team that supports each other and works hard. I’m excited and can’t wait for the start of the season!”
