Happy Father’s Day to James Ramirez! He and his wife, Desiree, are the proud parents of Madelyn (Maddy), 13, Elijah, 9, and Jacob, 7.

James is a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He deployed to Iraq in 2003 and was one of the first units to cross into the border when we invaded. He was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal with the Combat V device for valor shown during multiple battles the entire way through Baghdad. He also chose to start college right before the birth of his 3rd child to ensure his Post 911 GI bill wouldn’t go to waste. He worked full time and went to school full time to get his bachelor’s degree in Supervision and Management within 3 years. Today, he is a quality insurance consultant, and tells us, “I’m part of a team that audits our work product and processes to ensure we are paying what is owed to our clients and that our processes are working correctly.”

Desiree has been a registered nurse for 20 years. She’s worked all over the country as a travel nurse and settled at Holy Cross Hospital in 2005 to get her master’s degree in Health Administration. She worked as a bedside nurse, and now does quality improvement projects within the cardiology department.

Madelyn is heavily involved in band at Ramblewood MS. She plays the flute, and is in the marching band. Last year, she was the only 6th grader that made it into Broward’s All-County Band, and this year, she made first chair. She is also on the performance team at a local dance studio. Both Elijah and Jacob play baseball for Coral Springs American Little League. Elijah also plays soccer for Coral Springs Youth Soccer and Jacob plays lacrosse for the Parkland Redhawks.

Desiree is the Vice President of the Ramblewood Middle School Band Boosters and is also on the board for the PTO at Riverside Elementary. She shares in the room mom responsibilities for both boys’ elementary school classes. James coaches on all 4 of the teams (2 baseball, lacrosse, and soccer) that both boys play on. James and Desiree are both passionate about being involved in their children’s education.

Desiree tells us, “When there are no sports, dance seasons, or concerts to attend, we try to travel as much as possible, ride bikes, and spend time outdoors. We also enjoy boating, off roading, and other outdoor activities. We have family game nights often, and Sundays are generally reserved for grilling and hanging out by the pool or with friends and family.”

Madelyn is finishing 7th grade at Ramblewood Middle School. Her favorite subjects are math and robotics. Elijah is finishing 3rd grade and his favorite subjects are
math and science. Jacob has completed. 1st grade and his favorite subject is math.

James says, “We moved to Coral Springs in 2015 and LOVE it here!
We have the most amazing neighborhood and neighbors, and we have block parties for different holidays and an annual Neighborhood Crawl. We love the small town feel of Coral Springs, where we all look out for each other. This is our “Village”. There’s always kids outside playing.”When it comes to fatherhood, James tells us, “What I love most about being a dad is watching my kiddos grow and become little people. We hope to guide them in the right direction and give them the tools they need, but ultimately, they’re going to make their own decisions and it keeps surprising me how successful they are. I feel like I teach and coach them to the best of my abilities, but I end up learning more from them.”
