PARKLAND Baseball Proves its Mettle!

A community of passionately competitive baseball players has proven it’s worth in two major competitions. Parkland Little League’s 10U All Star Team and Parkland Pokers 13U travel team dominated the diamonds in early summer and rightly earned their fame in the game!

Parkland Little League has a lot to celebrate as their 2013 regular season came to an end. Parkland’s 10U All Star team recently became the District 10 (North Broward County) All Star Champions, something that Parkland has not been able to achieve in over 10 years.  “I am so proud of our Parkland players and coaches.  Their talent and commitment to our League undeniably led us to this important championship,” said Parkland Little League President, Jeanne Perretty.  Parkland’s All Star team swept the championship in their division by beating North Springs in the final game 13-3. The team was led by Manager, Kevin Little, who said, “The team practiced hard and it definitely showed on the field.” The team dominated their opponents by outscoring them 54-19 in the tournament. The impressive vanquishing came with a combination of fierce pitching and solid at bats. “All twelve of our players contributed towards winning the championship. …this is a huge win for Parkland,” said Little.  For the first time in more than 10 years, Parkland Little League has had a team advance to the Sectionals.

The Parkland Pokers 13U travel team defeated other clubs coming from as far as central Florida to play in the Inaugural USBaseball.net Independence Day Baseball Championship held in Parkland and Coral Springs. The Pokers defeated two incredible competitors, the Central Florida Wolverines and North Palm Beach Whitecaps, and were finally faced with the number 1 seeded Okeeheelee Maddogs at Parkland’s Terramar Park. After the first inning, the Pokers found themselves down 5-0, but came roaring back to take a 6-5 lead in the 2nd inning. The Championship game was thrilling; with plenty of offense and 6 lead changes. Okeeheelee would take an 8-6 lead, but the Pokers would come back once again to take a 9-8 lead, before Okeeheelee would rally to take an 11-9 lead. The Pokers would break it open in the 5th inning, and not relinquish the lead again winning the Championship Game 16-9. Manager Marc Chaykin said, “The Championship was an entire team accomplishment.”

As they set goals to play for their 3rd League Championship and 6h Division Title in the last 6 years, the Parkland Pokers will make the move to the 15U/14U Division in August. Talented players interested in joining the Pokers may contact (Manager) Marc Chaykin at Marc@ParklandPokersBaseball.com or visit their website, ParklandPokersBaseball.com.  Open workouts for The Parkland Pokers will begin the first week of August.
