Xpress the Intensity

Leaping into their fifth season of summer camp, Xpress Yourself Dance Studio is poised for its most successful summer ever! Owner Kristin Vincent is excited and confident about this year’s change in curriculum and a staff that has more professional accolades than ever.

Dancers are encouraged to step up to a higher level during five weeks of dance intensive camp for practically every style including tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, acro, hip-hop and stretch, turn & leap conditioning.  A three-week musical theater camp will be available and incorporate speaking parts for everyone, daily vocal lessons and acting classes along with their dance training. “At the end of the three weeks, we’ll head over to the Omni Auditorium in Coconut Creek and put on a show for the parents,” Kristin says with a big smile.  Xpress Yourself Dance Studio’s  large, clean and inviting facility includes three separate and spacious dance studios. Ages for the program begin at five years old and progress through teenagers.

More accomplished students will be thrilled at the schedule of the intensive dance camps. Broken into levels of experience and ability, the campers who need a little less of the “intensive” will also be able to play games, do crafts and participate in other fun activities scattered throughout the day.

Kristin has been teaching dance for more than 15 years and opened Xpress Yourself to dozens of excited families five years ago. Super excited about this upcoming season, she says, “The expansion of our staff is what is really going to make our summer thrive. When I started, it was smaller and I did it all myself. With the added talent that we have here, I know that the kids will get a really well-rounded dance education throughout the summer.” Kristin notes that the intensive camp develops rapid growth in every dancer. “They are consistently doing it six hours a day, five days a week. The growth is amazing in just one week’s time!”

The atmosphere at Xpress Yourself Dance Studio is evident from the moment one walks in during class hours. A large, warm waiting area is comfortable and inviting for families. Parents banter and visit with each other as they wait for their kids. Kristin says, “We don’t have the drama here that I’ve seen in other places. It’s very family-friendly and we like it that way. I know that competitive dancing can lead to a lot of the stuff that you see on TV shows, but as a Studio Director I don’t stand for that. I teach the dancers to bond with, encourage and be happy for one another’s accomplishments. The kids here are really friendly and supportive of each other.”

A preschool camp will also be in action this summer for children ages three to five and will be held Monday through Friday from 9am to noon. They will dance all styles, be given a snack break and will do a craft every day.

Growing up and graduating from high school in Coral Springs, tap is Kristin’s favorite discipline. Recently touring with Rome Saladino in a Tribute to Gene Kelly, Kristin is always pushing herself by training and learning even more. She and her Assistant Director will be going to New York soon to attend a special dance teacher’s summit.

As usual, evening classes will still be going on throughout the summer and there will be a special eight week session of dance classes in the evenings specifically for adults. Whoever you are and whatever you like to do, there is a family,  some fun and great dance instruction at Xpress Yourself Dance Studio. Call today for a list of classes and schedules.
