Your Journey Matters

By Michael Armfield

We are overjoyed as we reflect on the journey that so many of you in Parkland and Coral Springs have invited us into. 15 years ago, ArmfieldGroup set out as a company to help Leaders rediscover their Dreams and then design, develop and deploy a measurable strategy for success. Thank you for helping us make our Dreams come true!

It seems like yesterday (but it was actually 4 years ago) when I was invited into the Journey of a brilliant, passion filled couple. Scott and Shellie Farrugia (owners of Spectator Magazine) courageously reaffirmed that their lives mattered, that their involvement and investment in their community mattered, that their business mattered, and that, as a family, they could make a difference in the community. They refused to let a poor economy steal their joy, purpose, and passion for life.

My relationship with Scott and Shellie began and has been a wild ride ever since. Yes, the road has been up and down and been filled with the thrills of victory and the tears that life’s challenges bring, but what I love about this family is their refusal to give up and their commitment to always press on toward their goals. Their choice to “stand up and pour out” into their community has been a blessing to many of you. It has inspired me to write content that reflects my core values and my journey. It is a gift that I will never forget.

Thinking back, I remember a lunch with Scott when we were catching up on how the journey was going. We talked about business and his desire to always be improving, the perceived roadblocks, and tactical objectives we had crafted. But more importantly, we talked about what it meant to succeed, and how the result of success would empower Scott’s family to live out their Dream.

For so many local family owned businesses, success revolves around bank accounts, boats, airplanes, horses, and homes. How about you? What is your definition of success? At what cost or sacrifice will you fight for this goal? The spoils of success are nice, but the challenge presents itself when you sacrifice the most important things in your pursuit for success. Things like family, health, relationships, peace, and purpose.

As I sat with Scott that day, I was amazed at what unfolded. I was there to “pour out” into Scott’s life; and suddenly realized that he was pouring into me! If you know Scott and Shellie, you are clearly aware of their willingness to get “into the deep, murky water we all know as LIFE.” You know about their care and compassion for you, your family, and your business.

Scott challenged me that day. He also “fanned the fire” on my personal dreams for life and business. As a business owner, he chose to empower me. This act of intention, grace, and kindness is the most powerful gift you can ever give or receive, and Scott did just that.

I share this beautiful encounter with you for one reason. Success has many metrics, but the greatest measure of success is the ability to pour into the lives of those whom you walk the journey with. You know; your family, your friends, your clients, your employees, and your community.

If you want this powerful ability to enjoy life to its fullest, it will require you to master some things. You will need to create “Margin” in your life. You will need to manage your business, family, recreation time, finances, and health in a way that results in you having the time to slow down enough to be invited into others’ “Journeys.”

Many folks love this idea of being “others centered.” However, they tell me that they would like to embark on that “journey” but do not have the time. Does this resonate with you? If so, then I invite you to change. I invite you to awaken to the Dreams that have always been in your heart.

To begin this incredible journey and never be the same as you were yesterday, I invite you to visit our website and take one step toward this.
