Impressive Talent!

So impressed with Coral Springs Charter School Senior Hector Almonte, Lisa Feiler, with the Foundation for Wellness Professionals, got in touch with the Spectator. “I was very impressed with his initiative to be part of our internship program,” she told us. “His grades, attendance and everything he does with regard to school are exceptional, and he is very self-motivated. He’s done amazing work here with us in helping others by promoting and implementing programs that are beneficial to the entire community.”

The director for Ace Academy at Coral Springs Charter School and a teacher for the Ace Executive Internship Program is Mrs. Donna Hoo. Her first interaction with Hector was when he approached her and asked how he could become a part of the program. She says “Most students apply to be accepted into the program, but he came to me and asked if he could find an internship position and be included in our program. I was very impressed at his initiative. I understand that he recognized that this program would be a terrific stepping stone into his future.” Mrs. Hoo goes on to say, “As a student, he is extremely mature and intelligent. I would say that he is in the top 20% of our students here at school.”

Not only smart, Hector, 19, is a handsome and unassuming young gentleman who seems honored and humbled to be seen as exceptional. A Coral Springs resident, the youngest of four children and server/busboy at a local restaurant, Hector says he’s been motivated to make a difference for others from a young age. Citing the fact that he has tasked himself with doing a different project every month for his internship program, Hector talks passionately about the projects that have been successful so far. “In December, we became part of Project Angel Tree, finding sponsors and giving gifts to children who are underprivileged. In January, we offered free osteoporosis screenings for people. Many found out that they were at risk, and it will help them and their families to be proactive and aware.” He goes on to talk about a project that’s happening as we go to press. “We are now offering free cardiac screenings in hopes of helping people who may be at risk for any heart problems.” Hector insists that he didn’t venture into this for the purpose of gaining community service hours, but for the purpose of gaining more knowledge in the business world. After he graduates this June, he hopes to attend the University of Central Florida, obtaining a degree in healthcare administration. We’d say he’s on the right track!
