Parkland Women’s Club…Pause for the cause…Unleash the fun!

It’s all about women and friendship and reaching out to the community. Since 1987, the Parkland Women’s Club has promoted education, literacy and civic improvement in local communities, not only in the City of Parkland.

Members also include residents of Coral Springs, Coconut Creek and Boca Raton. In addition, the Parkland Woman’s Club (PWC) is affiliated with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, which has the largest organization of women volunteers in the world. The General Federation was founded in 1890 with the motto “Unity in Diversity.” The 2015-2016 President’s Project for GFWC is Canine Companions. Club President, Pamela Whitmore picked the theme “Pause for the Cause…Unleash  the Fun.”

The local PWC group, which consists of members ranging from young mothers, business women and retired women, exemplifies the national club’s mission through various charitable projects. Some include working with Adopt-a-Park, UNICEF, Relay for Life, A.C.T.S. girls home and to raise funds for Debbie’s Dream Foundation, finding a cure for stomach cancer and, lastly, Canine Companions who are trained to assist people with disabilities. We have teamed up with the City of Parkland  and  had a successful Health & Beauty Expo raising funds for American Cancer Society-Relay for Life and a “Trash to Treasure” Sale.

The PWC also has a club for teens called the Parkland Juniorettes or “P.J’s.” Their Advisor, Denise Gobin, works with and mentors this energetic group of young ladies. These girls are given an opportunity to earn community service hours, meet and interact with a diverse group of young women, take an active role  in one of the world’s largest volunteer organizations and plan outstanding activities. Some have  included Kids in Distress, Parkland Relay for Life, and supported Canine Companions. They also develop leadership skills while building an impressive college resumes.

Both clubs have a Board and Board Meetings. The Juniorettes meet the first Monday of every month at a different member’s home and PWC meets the third Thursday of each month at 7:00pm at Parkland’s Cypress Head Clubhouse.

The Club’s upcoming dates and events are their Annual Membership Kick-Off Meeting with a theme of “Volunteer with the Stars” on September 17th at the Cypress Head Clubhouse at 7:00 pm.  We have a great year planned with a Cruise Ship Luncheon tentatively scheduled for October.

Make new friends or re-connect with the old, all the while serving your community through fund raising and community service activities. The Parkland Women’s Club asks for your help in achieving another rewarding year in 2015-2016. Their charity this year is “Debbie’s Dream Foundation.”
