RUSH FOR THE CAUSE…Obstacle Course 5K, January 30th!

By Stacy Case

On your mark, get set, GO!”…. Former marine Manny Mair has created another fun-filled, action-packed Soldier Rush obstacle course race (OCR) at Parkland’s Equestrian Center on Saturday, January 30. Spanning 5K with more than 30 challenging, but do-able, obstacles in a family-friendly environment, spectators will be able to cheer on their family and friends during the race. Competitive athletes will be timed and compete for trophies, cash and prizes from Puma, Swole O’Clock and much more. For those who just want to have a great time, take as much time as you need and enjoy the challenge. All finishers will receive a medal, T-shirt and goodie bag. Show up in your proudest patriotic American garb and have a blast. “People are going to walk away from this Soldier Rush and say ‘Wow! I just did that obstacle course!’ and will feel very fulfilled no matter how many other ones they’ve done,” said Mair.

Expecting 1,500-2,000 racers, Manny is excited that the event will benefit two great causes, the Honor Flight (a program that assists veterans to visit memorials in Washington D. C.) as well as the Firefighter Benevolent Association. He is also looking for some younger registrants (ages 4-8) to come out and demonstrate their fitness on a 12-obstacle, 300m course. Soft spoken, affable and incredibly fit, Manny says there will be several group prizes as well as an award given for the Biggest Team. “More than anything,” Manny says, “Every person will leave the event with an incredible sense of accomplishment”.

It’s time to form a team made up of family and friends, support your veterans and firefighters, and enjoy an outdoor fitness event in the beautiful South Florida winter weather. The Equestrian Center is located at 8350 Ranch Road in Parkland.
