The Savransky Family

Barry and Stephanie, transplants from Cleveland, are thrilled to be residents of Parkland for 13 years now. Stephanie tells us, “We moved here for the sense of community like we had from up north.” Together with their two girls, Lexi, 14 and Ashley, 11, this active  family stays busy in this area they’ve grown to love for many reasons.

Barry is a partner with a staffing organization and Stephanie’s career in  event planning, marketing and Public Relations had to be put on hold when she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2013. She says, “We have no family in Florida and when I was diagnosed with cancer, people from the community came out of the woodwork  to send a card or bring a meal. We feel very thankful to call this our home!”

This year, Lexi is a freshman at Stoneman Douglas High School, where her favorite subject for the moment is science. Mom says,  “Next week it could be something else!” Ashley’s enjoying  the 6th grade at Westglades Middle. Her favorite subject is Language Arts.

Lexi loves everything from tennis to horseback riding. She is on Douglas’s cross country and track teams and  is also involved with numerous clubs and organizations. Ashley has been dancing since she was small, and would dance every day if she could. She also loves theatre and plans on being in the drama club at Westglades.

Not to be left off the roster, this family is only complete when their beloved black Labrador, Coco, is counted in. She was rescued 5 years ago when she was about 2 years old.

Passionate about fundraising, Stephanie actually started and co-chaired the Arthritis Walk in Broward county which was held in Parkland for the first 3 years with the late Gail Michaels. Both Gail’s son Steven and Lexi have juvenile arthritis, with  Lexi’s diagnoses coming before the age of 2. Unfortunately, Stephanie was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in March 2013 so the Savranskys are raising awareness for this as well. Stephanie, Lexi and Ashley are all on the committee for the Not My Daughter…find a cure now!  luncheon this year on October 16th. They are excited to be affiliated with this wonderful organization. And if that doesn’t keep her busy enough, Stephanie is now  a member of both the PTA and PTSA at Westglades and Douglas.

And is there time to do anything else? Stephanie laughs and smiles saying, “We spend a lot of time together as a family and most Saturday nights are spent with the kids. We enjoy going to the beach, hitting the art walks and      follow Barry on his foodie adventures around South Florida. We also love going to the theme parks in Orlando.”
