As the Holiday’s will soon be upon us, local Parkland troop 10524 wanted to make a difference at Boca Helping Hands (Remillard Family Resource Center 1500 NW 1st Court Boca Raton, FL 33432). The girls wrote letters asking for non perishable food donations, stuffed them into plastic bags and hung them on their neighbors mailboxes. The girls efforts paid off in a heavy way. Alexis Miller, Reagan Licata, Lindsi Cohn, Lily Snell, Sarah Wyner, Zoe Zentefis, Hannah Shulby,Anna Kiernan, Katie Peterson, lead by troop leader Pam Miller, collected and donated more than 450 pounds of food! That is more then their combined weight! The girls couldn’t have picked a better day to volunteer. On this day, November 2nd 2014, the elevator broke down which made it impossible to transfer the much needed food from the 2nd floor down to ground level. The Lift Maintenance Repair team was contacted, and the Jr. Girl Scout troop formed a human chain on the staircase, passing fresh produce and meats down to the 1st floor. “I felt happy knowing we could help people. I cant wait to go back and help again” said Anna Kiernan, age 10. Troop 10524 is no stranger at Boca Helping Hands. This is the troops second trip volunteering there with plans of bring their little helping hands back on a regular basis.
Boca Helping Hands is a four star charity for its 9th consecutive year! Boca Helping Hands provides food and emergency assistance to meet basic human needs and long-term solutions to break the cycle of dependence.
